As part of the Masters Week Sale at Sotheby’s New York in 2022, Pure+Applied designed an installation showcasing Renaissance artist Sandro Botticelli’s masterpiece “The Man of Sorrows”. The Pure+Applied team drew inspiration from San Marco Monastery and elements of the painting to create a bespoke art-based experience.
I served as Architectural Exhibition Designer for this project at Pure+Applied.
The angels featured in “The Man of Sorrows” were animated and projected on the walls of the first room welcoming visitors to consider the smaller details and subject matter of the painting more closely.
Since this masterpiece is rarely seen in public, it was important to create a unique and contemplative moment for visitors and potential buyers when viewing the artwork.
